The circular gradient of colours for the endpaper has been printed using a Vandercook SP15 press. Laudes Creaturarum, also known as the Canticle of the Creatures or Canticle of the Sun, is a poetic hymn that praises the beauty and harmony of all creation through the elements of nature, especially highlighting the life-giving power of the Sun. The design and colour scheme are inspired by 'Brother Sun', as described by Saint Francis of Assisi. Over 800 teardrop shapes in three different sizes are tooled across the cover, and their scattered arrangement creates a circular form – the Sun – through the negative space they leave behind. The circular gradient of colours in the endpapers was printed from a linoleum block, which was hand-inked using a pottery wheel and roller. Private Collection, UK
